Government Places 200 Police Officers To Guard MPs - Regcollins

Hon Ambrose Dery,  on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, disclosed that 200 police officers will be deployed with immediate effect to serve as guards to Members of Parliament till the end of the year. 


According to the Minister, these officers will operate under the Parliamentary Protection Unit. Each Member of Parliament will be entitled to a police officer as a bodyguard.


He made known to members of the Parliamentary Press Corps after an enclosed sitting with honorable members in Parliament. Ministry of Interior, Hon Ambrose Dery further indicated that due to the changing of the security agencies by President.


The country has more security agencies and security personnel available, hence the ministry has proposed that between now and the end of the year, an additional 200 police personnel will be employed  to the parliamentary protection unit.


This arrangement according to him will ensure that the unit attains the status of divisional police command to take care of the Members of Parliament as bodyguards. However, to come by the intended destination, subsequently, an additional 800 police will be added so that each MP will also have security at home in the day and at night.
